During advocacy on April 1st, the juniors of Carneige Vanguard High School sat down and logged in to take their SAT, only to realize that the questions were far too easy to be the correct test. E=While some may think that this is simply because the students were over-prepared, they could not be more incorrect. College Board –for the first time– has participated in the popular holiday, April Fools. As a joke, the organization convinced HISD and several other districts to swap their juniors’ SAT and 5th graders’ STAAR test.
As juniors clicked through questions about simple fractions, friendly linear slopes, and easy paraphrasing, HISD’s 5th graders struggled through questions about complex algebraical elimination and baffling logarithms. Juniors later stated they felt that the test had been the easiest in years, while numerous 5th graders said that they had just guessed through the whole test.

“I’ve been studying since January and I’m just glad that it was so easy,” a CVHS junior said. However, that same afternoon, College Board announced that all grades were cancelled and that the official testing date had been scheduled for April 31st. Many juniors at CVHS expressed pure joy at that announcement of the as it would mean that would have more time to study.

“It’s wonderful that they’ve done this, College Board has been seen as so serious to all of us and it’s nice that they’ve shown this other side to themselves as just as playful as the students they give tests to,” a CVHS English teacher said.
Several other teachers shared the same opinion.
“In my day, I remember how stressful it was, studying for all those tests, UniversityBoard seemed like this uncaring entity that would grant us our future. But, now it feels like maybe they care a bit more for the students then they did,” a CVHS math teacher said.
Students have even praised College Board’s creativity on social media, with several memes being spread across the internet and several even going viral. The playful joke was very well received, and one College Board staff member even revealed that they “plan to do something even crazier next year.”
